We offer two options for a preoperative evaluation – a brief screening exam and a complete evaluation. If you choose the brief exam, expect to spend approximately one hour at our office. You will have basic screening tests and Dr. McCormick will give you the results. If you choose the complete evaluation, expect to spend approximately 2-3 hours with our staff at your preoperative appointment. For those patients who schedule a complete evaluation, we will do everything you need to determine if you are a candidate including a variety of detailed measurements of your eyes and a dilated eye exam. No payment is required for either exam option. Whether or not you are a good candidate for laser surgery, you will have the opportunity to meet with Dr. McCormick to learn about the results of your testing as well as your options. We look forward to meeting you!
If you wear soft contact lenses, please be sure to discontinue wearing your contacts for at least two weeks prior to your evaluation. If you wear hard or gas permeable contact lenses, please discontinue wear for at least 4 weeks.
For your convenience, please feel free to download and fill out the following registration forms prior to your appointment to facilitate the check-in process at our office:
- LASIK Patient Registration Form: MS-Word or Adobe PDF

Refractive Surgery Preoperative Considerations
•If you plan to wear contact lenses after your evaluation visit, please discontinue wearing them for two weeks prior to your laser vision correction procedure.
• There are no food restrictions prior to laser vision correction as only topical numbing drops are used. Please eat a light meal prior to your laser vision correction procedure.
•Do not wear any make-up or facial lotion on the day of your laser vision correction procedure. Also, do not wear any perfume, cologne or hair spray because these vapors may interfere with the quality of the laser treatment.
•Please arrange for a friend or relative to drive you home on the day of your procedure and your first postoperative visit as your vision will be slightly hazy.
•Plan on resting for the remainder of the day following your laser vision correction procedure. Most people can return for a light workload the day after LASIK or approximately five days after LASEK.
Please contact the team at our office at (802) 864-2010 if you have any questions about these preoperative instructions or anything related to your upcoming laser vision correction procedure.
