Cataract surgery may be recommended when the clear, natural lens of the eye becomes cloudy and causes blurred vision. Many individuals report the cataract increases glare and halo around lights, impedes night driving and makes reading challenging. Cataract surgery is one of the most commonly performed out-patient procedures in the United States.

During cataract surgery, the cloudy natural lens of the eye is removed and, in most cases, a clear artificial lens is inserted. This artificial lens is called an intraocular lens (IOL). There are several options available when selecting an IOL. During the preoperative consultation, your surgeon will review the different lens options with you and make a recommendation based upon your desired goals following surgery.

Upper or lower eyelids can become droopy or baggy due to the aging process. Cosmetically, such conditions may cause an older or tired appearance. The benefits of this surgery may include:

  • Brightening a “tired” appearance
  • Lifting excess skin that may impair the vision
  • Reduction of wrinkles and fine lines surrounding the eyes

As Vermont’s only American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons (ASOPRS) fellowship trained surgeon, Dr. Katherine Lane can help patients attain beautiful, natural-looking results. Dr. Lane offers a variety of cosmetic eyelid surgeries, among other specialized procedures and treatments. Patients admire her years of education, training, and experienced combined with her kind bedside manner.

The decision to have cosmetic eyelid surgery is personal and the process can seem overwhelming.
